Prevent, Not Heal

“I’m not going to the doctor because I’m not in pain and I have no problems. Besides, I don’t have time”. Wrong! Regular health checks are an important preventive measure because they allow the disease to be detected in time, to determine the risk, and develop a plan for the possible improvement of health with the doctor.

If you feel well and do not have any subjective symptoms, you should visit your chosen doctor once a year. Such a review can help a lot, as it provides insights into basic laboratory analyzes, blood pressure, heart and lung findings, abdominal organs, and blood vessel status. If there are changes in laboratory analyzes, for example, if glycemic (blood sugar) is higher than the last year, you will receive advice on diet and compulsory physical activity appropriate to your years of life. If necessary, a doctor can give you a proposal for additional analyzes.

Risk factors

We are at high risk of mortality due to cardiovascular diseases. Incorrect nutrition “keeps” the risk factors responsible for heart and blood vessels diseases: obesity, diabetes, high fats, increased pressure…

Elevated levels of urea and creatinine indicate a problem in the functioning of the kidneys, transaminases indicate the state of the liver in the case of, for example, the use of a bigger amount of alcohol, carbonated juices, poor nutrition, and even the use of pain medication if they are taken for a longer time. Cholesterol and triglycerides may be elevated due to improper diet, increased fat and carbohydrate intake, physical inactivity… Hypertension, or high blood pressure, requires, first of all, changes in lifestyle, but also adequate drug therapy.

Changes in your lifestyle that can lower your blood pressure are limited salt intake to o.2 ounces per day, moderate alcohol consumption not exceeding 0.7 to 1 ounces of ethanol per day for men and 0.3 to 0.7 ounces per day for women, a diet should be dominated by fruits and vegetables, and low-fat dairy products. It is crucially important for obesity and weight loss and a decrease in waist circumference to 40 inches for men and less than 35 inches for women. Also, for a healthy life, as a basic preventive measure of numerous diseases, there are at least 30 minutes of physical activity five to seven days a week.
